Chinese family: stereotypes and reality

Бесплатный доступ

The family has been of interest to researchers at all times, because upbringing in the family was an important component of the formation of a whole society. The article deals with interpersonal relationships in a traditional Chinese family and a modern one. We have conducted a survey covering three spheres of interpersonal relations: relations between spouses (gender roles and gender equality), attitude towards children (upbringing issues), attitude towards older family members (respect and support). We came to the conclusion that modern Chinese family has changed compared to traditional Chinese family. It is probably associated with globalization, many traditional values are fading into the background, while completely different ones, previously alien to this society, come to replace them. Nevertheless, we can see that a lot of features of traditional family are still alive.
