The hoard of oriental coins from the Chyortovo gorodishche fortified settlement

The article introduces the hoard of the oriental silver coins found on the Chyortovo Gorodishche fortified settlement. The authors examined 45 drachmas and dirhams and investigated their dynastic, geographic and chronological distributions. According to the obtained data, the formation of the hoard may be attributed to the mid 810s. This is one of the few reliable deposits illustrating the beginning of the arrival of the oriental coin silver to the Oka region along the Don trade route. Comparison with the synchronous published hoards of the region indicates that the researched deposite is an important source for studying the contacts between the population of the Oka river basin with the Khazar Khaganate and the Muslim East.
