The possibility of applying the method - discriminant analysis to classify Russian public corporation according to the criterion of “increase in equity capital” is considered in this article. The study sample consists of 70 non-financial organizations whose shares are quoted on the PJSC Moscow Exchange. Each company is tested against the ESG-criteria. At the same time, the study puts forward a hypothesis according to which compliance with the ESG criteria allows public corporations to effectively manage their invested capital in such way as to increase their own capital from year to year, rather than reduce it. The study substantiates the use of discriminant analysis in comparison with other methods, in particular cluster analysis and multiple regression analysis, which are alternative methods that have individual characteristics: opportunities and limitations. The effectiveness of using discriminant analysis when dividing public corporations into two groups has been proven: companies that increase their own capital, and companies that reduce it, based on compliance with ESG criteria (the key ones were identified during the study). Thus, the assignment of the object under study to one or another group will be correct in 81.4% of cases, which indicates the high quality and accuracy of the forecast of the discriminant function proposed in the study.
