The article discusses the question of the relation of Clement of Alexandria to Egyptian culture (religious cults, customs and literary monuments). The common point of view on Clement as a native of Athens is questioned. The dependence of names, given to the Christian authors according to place, upon their dignity or order is analysed. The passage Clem. Alex. Strom. I, 1, 11, 2, which describes the Clement's journey from Athens to Egypt, is interpreted. The difference between the description of the Egyptian realities by Clement and the descriptions of them by other authors as well as the difference between the description of the Egyptian and not Egyptian realities by Clement is shown. The influence of Clement on Egyptian monastic-ism is pointed out. The conclusion about an exceptional immersion of Clement of Alexandria in the Alexandrian and, more broadly, in the Egyptian environment, immersion which made him the first representative of the Christian Alexandrian school, is made.
