We observed a growing incidence of cytomegalovirus infection (CMV) among all patients admitted to an infectious disease hospital. We analyzed clinical and laboratory parameters of 60 immunocompetent patients with CMV infection. Of them, 25 individuals had acute CMV infection (Group 1), whereas 35 patients had manifesting CMV infection in the reactivation stage (Group 2). We found that acute CMV infection has a number of differences with infection reactivation; it is characterized by more severe fever, acute onset, higher frequency of multi-organ lesions, more pronounced monocytosis and lymphomonocytosis, increased CRP, more significant increase in LDH, ALT, and AST.
