Resume: Progressive muscular dystrophy (PMD) is a heterogeneous group of inherited diseases characterized by progressive muscle weakness and skeletal muscle atrophy. All PMDs are characterized by varying degrees of muscle weakness and muscle atrophy. The type of distribution of muscle weakness in PMD is one of the main diagnostic criteria. Each of the forms of PMD is characterized by selective damage to certain muscles, while others, located nearby, are preserved.
