"Book of the knight Zifar": the prototype of Spanish romance

The first autochthonous Spanish novel Book of the Knight Zifar (circa 1300) is viewed in the article. The author attempts at discovering what peculiarities of the poetics of this text allow scholars in particular to mark it as the beginning of chivalric literature on the Iberian Peninsula, though it is individual and unlike classical types of romance.
