G.V. Ksenofontov is an outstanding researcher of traditional culture of the peoples of Siberia and Yakutia at the first half of the XX century. In his works he investigated the genesis, the early ethnic history, believes (shamanism) and folklore. The article deals with the phenomenon of nomadism and its role in the life of Eurasian peoples. G.V. Ksenofontov defined the basic patterns of nomadism development and recreated its particular superstructure functions.
