Cognitive operation of transfiguration in creating a secondary text (based on fanfiction texts)

Бесплатный доступ

The paper represents a model of the readers’ text projection forming process from the point of view of cognitive linguistics. The research focuses on the operation of transfiguration, which is applied to the elements of a primary text (i. e. pivot points in the plot, images of the characters, etc.) by the recipients. The research of the mentioned transfiguration has been based on fanfiction texts in English via a comparative analysis of the latter with the primary original text. The article describes the ways readers’ strategies and tactics correlate with the cognitive operation of transfiguration while interpreting new knowledge. The mentioned cognitive operation is implemented mostly on the macrolevel of the text under perception. The results of the research might be applied in several areas of academic knowledge (i.e. further development of the cognitive model of text perception and text production, including texts that vary in media, perception mechanisms that promote the development of effective strategies and tactics for text perception in a foreign language).
