In this paper cognitive models of the ethical concepts ‘goodness' and ‘evilness' were studied in Russian phraseology on the example of the tree of knowledge of goodness and evilness. It is shown that these concepts can not only be metaphorically represented as concrete real objects, including objects with specified characteristics: food and apple, but also metonymically designated by the lexemes goodness and evilness within the cognitive domains ‘good' and ‘evil'. It is concluded that not only cultural specificities, but also cognitive models and thinking abilities of the Russian people can be seen in Russian phraseology.
