The problem of predication is considered from the perspective of cognitive semantics and grammar. The terms of cognitive linguistics (ground (base) and figure (profile)) are projected to traditional syntactic categories (prediсative subject and predicate). Some text fragments are analyzed in order to find out the specific ways of the ground (base) and figure (profile) interaction.
