Quantitative Analysis of the Top-ics of 1210 Doctoral Dissertations in Sociology (1990‒01.12.2024)

The article presents selected findings from a quantitative analysis of the thematic distribution of 1,210 doctoral dissertations in sociology defended in our country from 1990 to 12/01/2024. An “evolutionary wave” has been identified in the number of doctoral dissertations defended annually. Their number increased exponentially from 1990 to 2005. Since 2006, there has been a decrease in the intensity of doctoral research, which lasted until 2020. The distribution of subjects of 1,210 doctoral dissertations in scientific specialties shows the dominance of research on social structure, social institutions and processes. Differences in the topics of doctoral dissertations were established for three pairs of samples: dissertations defended in Moscow (427 dissertations) and regions (588 dissertations); defended in 1992–1999 (261 dissertations) and 2016–2023 (100 dissertations); defended by men (655 dissertations) and women (555 dissertations).
