Collecting of antiquities in Russia: from a resource of internal colonization to new cultural practices

Using the metaphor of internal colonization, the author reconstructs the periods in the evolution of the collecting of antiquities and the practices of handling them in Russia, starting with the period of the advancement of the Russian state to the Urals and Siberia. The article traces how the attitude towards antiquities changed over time and what social groups took part in their search and collecting.
