This article reveals the importance of speech culture in the professional activity of an officer. An attempt is made on the basis of diachronic analysis to trace the features of the speech culture of the Russian serviceman. Based on the texts of speeches of the great Russian commanders, conclusions about the role of the importance of using addresses in public speeches of military personnel. The research material can find application both in military education and in the optional course of speech culture in a civilian university.
