In this paper, communication barriers are considered as the most important factor reducing the effectiveness of interpersonal and intercultural interaction. Communication interference is classified by origin: it can occur from the source of information, the recipient, or the external environment. Special attention is paid to various types of barriers: physiological, linguistic, behavioral, psychological and cultural. The text analyzes the reasons for the appearance of such obstacles, including differences in mentalities, misinterpretation of non-verbal signals, distrust, misunderstanding of the context, as well as distortions in the transmission or translation of information. The problem of information distortions in the interests of the state and society is also touched upon. It is pointed out that in the context of international communications, it is particularly difficult to predict possible barriers in advance, so participants must be psychologically prepared for them. In conclusion, methods of overcoming communication barriers are considered, including the development of empathy, cultural awareness, increasing the level of linguistic and communicative competence, as well as the use of flexible communication strategies. Effective communication requires not only technical skills, but also respect for the other person, willingness to engage in dialogue, and consideration for cultural differences.
