The article deals with communication practices publisher of children’s books in the children’s book series illustrated by the example of «How it was» publishing series of the publisher house «Samokat». Using the methodology of G. Genette, the author decrypts the terminological disorder that has arisen in recent years in the scientific literature on the subject. To describe similar phenomena today is used a number of different concepts such as «publishing discourse», «paratext,» «peripheral texts» and finally «secondary texts.» Accepting the arguments of each of the researchers, the author choose the term «secondary texts» and analyzes those, that are relevant to a particular series.Combining a number of books in the series is an act of interpretation. As a result of it, book’s series, including in children’s literature, are an integral semiotic education. Intertextual relationship is established through a variety of design and text elements that define a series: design and illustration, common themes, similar principles of editing. The secondary texts create the series as a whole, define a new perception for each literary work, published in the series, and complement its meaning. In recent years they have played a leading role in shaping the attitudes of the sender to a series of editorial communication, the readers, and dominated by the power of influence in the organization of perception to the primary text. This leads to the conclusion that the creation of secondary texts is a purposeful communicative practice that exists to influence the target audience with the help of intertextual relationship of basic and secondary texts. This communicative practice is characterized by an increase in the proportion of secondary texts in the book and their increasing role in promoting the primary text of each of the series of books. These theses are supported by the example of a number of books of the series «How it was» such as: Masha Rolnikayte «I must tell you», Bulat Okudzhava «Be healthy, scholar!» and others. Each book contains common words in annotation; each text is supplemented with historical article and other documentary materials (including visual materials). Many secondary texts related to the books series «How it was» are posted in the media: the creators of the series regularly give interviews about it, they talk about work on the books and their concept in a personal blog, post additional materials at special sites. In the end, the secondary text books in the series «How it was» articulate multidimensional communicative appeal: they testify to the historical authenticity using the documentary papers, refer to modern aesthetics thanks to its innovative design, reported that the series is made up of the most popular today, the reader reprints of Soviet literature texts and also have a pronounced human rights, humanistic orientation. Thus, there is a secondary series of text as hypertext and influence the reader’s worldview, along with the primary product.
