The article presents experience of independent work organization at the Department of orthopedics and traumatology FSBEI Omsk State Medical University as the basis for the inclusion of surgical residents in a system of continuous medical education in the context of the competence approach to learning. Thoughtfully organized independent work, including algorithm development aid to the victim, selection of modern orthopedic designs, case studies, and supervises patients as the independent activities of surgical residents has a serious impact on the depth and strength of students‘ knowledge, pace of learning material. Motivational and technological support for independent classroom and extracurricular cognitive activity allows physicians residents successfully master practical skills in clinical diagnostics, algorithm of staged emergency, qualified and specialized care to the affected.
