The competency-based approach in the system of professional higher education

The article refers to changes of the system of professional higher education, defines the concept of "professional competence" and reviews its components. At the same time, professional competence means a complex of knowledge, skills and abilities of students that demonstrate their preparedness to work and improve themselves in a professional environment. Then, problems of competence assessment are discussed and advantages and disadvantages of the competency-based approach are revealed.
