Introduction: the article is devoted to the study of possible information threats in computer games in the context of developing a private theory of media security in the digital environment. Materials and Methods: the methodological basis of the study was the analytical philosophical tradition along with general scientific methods (description, comparison, generalization, etc.), as well as private scientific methods (formal-legal, comparative-historical, comparative-legal, etc.). Literature review: we analyzed the publications of V.V. Artamonova [1], V.V. Merkuryev, O.V. Khlopkova and A.S. Klementiev [2], A.B. Smushkin [3], E.R. Ilyuk [4], V.A. Semenyak [5], I.Yu. Sundiev and A.A. Smirnov [6], P.A. Oleinikova and A.V. Karavaeva [7], S. Koine and L. Shockdale [8]. Results: the scientific positions on the essence of computer games, their harms, and what information threats can be manifested in them have been studied. Discussion and Conclusions: the study demonstrated that there is insufficient evidence to claim that games themselves are an information threat; they are only one of the possible forms of content in which information threats are expressed.
