Influence of compliance on adaptation of schizophrenic patients

The article presents the features of schizophrenic patients' medication compliance, groups of factors forming compliance and its influence on the patients' adaptation. According to preliminary results, patients' premorbid personality characteristics influence their medication compliance formation; it has been revealed that there is a direct correlation between level of compliance and quality of adaptation: the higher compliance is the more favorable types of adaptation and compensatory-adaptive defenses there are in patients. In this article a clinical case of schizophrenic patient for illustrating the theoretical results obtained in our research is presented. This case shows stages of compliance formation and its influence on the patient's adaptation in dynamic of sixteen year period of disease.
