The article presents one of the richest burial grounds of Han period, namely. Mawangdui tombs, which were excavated in the early seventies of the last century. In one of the tombs well-preserved mummy of woman was found. The funeral objects consisted of lacquer wares, silk products, armour, musical instruments, as well as of books (on silk and wood slips) on medicine, philosophy, military science, maps etc. Thanks to epigraphy data, the status, exact dates of death and even names of buried peoples were determined. Because of that Mawangdui can be treated as a reference site of the Ancient China at the first half of II cent. BC.
