Impact of COVID-19 on the Russian coffee market in the current economic conditions

Nowadays, coffee is not just a beverage but also an important attribute in the daily life of many people around the world. However, the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 has brought significant changes to the global coffee market. The timing of the pandemic has tested the coffee world on the one hand, but on the other hand, it has opened up new and improved opportunities for innovation and sustainability in the sector. The article examines the indicators of coffee production and consumption before, during and after the pandemic. The main reasons for the consumption dynamics during the pandemic and after the lockdown are highlighted. The main reasons for the decrease in coffee consumption were restrictions, including space limitations, disruption of work schedules, changes in eating habits, psychological and social reasons. A number of factors also influenced the increase in coffee sales after the pandemic, one of which was an increase in home coffee consumption. The estimated forecasts of the coffee market development are given, related to the increase in the comfort level of the beverage consumption, expansion of the assortment, innovative technologies, healthy lifestyle practices and others.
