Concept of centric relation in dentistry: current view on the problem (literature review)

The notion of centric relation remains controversial in dentistry; the methods of its assessment have changed many times. The aim of this study was to evaluate the scientific nature of centric relation. We analyzed the correlation between occlusion and temporomandibular joint and the relevance of the centric relation concept in clinical practice. Novel studies impugn the concept of centric relation in the treatment of patients with antagonist pairs of teeth.
