Introduction: the legal doctrine of Richard Posner is a significant contribution to the world history of political and legal thought. The geography of research into the scientific works of the American author has gone far beyond Anglo-Saxon law. Being one of the most cited American legal scholars, R. Posner has simultaneously become one of the most controversial and criticized authors of our time. Interest in the ideas of R. Posner is manifested, on the one hand, in the study of the original legal worldview presented in his works; on the other hand - in attempts at critical reflection on the extensive literary heritage of the legal scholar, around which heated ideological debates are conducted. Purpose and objectives: this study aims to comprehensively analyze the content, nature, and focus of the practice-oriented concept of economic analysis of law. To achieve this goal, the following objectives were formulated: firstly, to determine the place and role of Richard Posner’s legal doctrine in the world history of political and legal doctrines; secondly, to study the basic substantive principles underlying the concept of economic analysis of law; thirdly, to study approaches to the understanding of law from the point of view of economic analysis of law; fourthly, to develop a special glossary and techniques for studying the fundamentally non-theoretical type of legal thinking of American legal scholars.
