Conception of the cultural distance and translation of the cinema dialogue

The concept of «external» and «internal» cultural distance which exists not only between the source culture and target culture, but within one culture as well is examined. The importance of internal cultural distance in translation is emphasized. It is shown that the translator s objective is significantly challenged by the necessity of simultaneous adequate presentation of both external and internal peculiarities of the source culture with the translating language for a viewer as a representative of the receiving culture.
