The relevance of studies devoted to the consideration of the directions of reforms in the education system that ensure the preparation of competitive graduates who meet the requirements of the labor market is substantiated. The theoretical foundations for developing the concept of transforming the system of interaction between universities, students and employers are presented. The reasons for the low competitiveness of young specialists, subjective and objective factors that determine the emergence of problems in the employment of university graduates are identified. The most frequently requested universal skills, a pool of requirements put forward by employers to university graduates when hiring are presented. The ways to solve existing problems, directions for the development of university training of graduates in cooperation with potential employers are identified. Proposals for updating the process of professional training of students, their employment are formulated.
