Yu. M. Lotman's concept of semiosphere and its value for the study of journalism in Abkhazia

The article suggests that Yu.M. Lotman’s concept of semiosphere is an effective methodological tool for studying journalism in Abkhazia as a cultural and historical phenomenon. The author applies Lotman’s concept of «cultural explosion» to the history of the development of media in Abkhazia, which allows him to see the history of formation and functioning of Abkhaz communication field as an experience of preserving Abkhaz culture in the era of globalization.
