The question of the functioning of conceptual metaphors with a sphere-the source of the TEACHING in the comedy of D.I. Fonvizin “Nedorosl” is considered from the standpoint of the theory of conceptual metaphor of J. Lakoff and M. Johnson. We have found that conceptual metaphors with the sphere-the source of the Teaching are represented in the comedy of D.I. Fonvizin in the form of a number of metaphorical expressions. The analysis of metaphorical expressions allowed us to identify 5 basic conceptual metaphors explicated in the text space of the literary and artistic work under consideration. We noted the activation of the following conceptual metaphors: “ Teaching is Excess ”, “ Teaching is the Humiliation of Noble Honor ”, “ Teaching is Pretense ”, “ Teaching is Torment ”, “ Teaching is the Path to Good Morals ”. We have come to the conclusion that the unenlightened nobility is characterized by the idea of teaching as a tool for obtaining material benefits, humiliating necessity, the embodiment of suffering and danger to the mind. A truly educated noble class sees meaning in teaching only when virtue accompanies it.
