The conflict between St. Serapion of Novgorod and St. Joseph of Volokolamsk in the context of relations between church and state in early 16th

The article is devoted to the problem of relationship between the Church and the state in the 16th century on the example of the conflict between St. Joseph of Volokolamsk and St. Serapion, the archbishop of Novgorod. Special attention is paid to the issue of the conflicting parties’ motivation, considered in the context of the history of studying the conflict.
