Competitiveness of Russian agri-food export under economic sanctions

Increasing the export of agri-food products in Russia is an important factor in achieving the country’s national development goals. The economic sanctions imposed against Russia in 2022 may jeopardize plans to increase exports. To forecast the possible impact of sanctions on the competitiveness of exported agri-food products, the article analyzes changes in the indicators of the revealed comparative advantages of Russian agri-food products during the previously imposed sanctions and foreign trade restrictions emerging for various reasons. Despite the economic sanctions and trade restrictions, the list of Russian goods that are actually competitive on the world market has expanded over the last 10 years. The experience of the past suggests that Russia will be able to maintain its place among the world’s leading suppliers of agricultural products in modern conditions.
