The gathering of independence by the countries of Central Asia set a number of tasks for the states and peoples inhabiting this territory, the solution of which required immediate action. Since the young states, which had not yet become strong after the collapse of the Soviet Union, had to unite their population, legitimize their power and their historical location in a given territory, and set goals for the future, they appealed to the nation and national identity of their citizens. Thus, since 1991, the region began an active development in the field of nation-building and the construction of identities. The aim of the present work is to consider the emerging history-writing process in post-soviet Tajikistan in terms of nation-building and national identity.
