The article discusses if it is possible to organize independent work of students in specialized math classes by means of research tasks in the process of algebra studying. The levels of students’ independent work are distinguished. The principles of research tasks designing according to the complexity and the content of mathematics education are considered. The author provides an example of algebra tasks based on the mentioned principles applied in the study of the topic "The divisibility of natural numbers" by 10th grade school students.
