Wood turnover control in Russia: Analysis of methods and development prospects

Introduction: forest use and regulation in Russia are an important topic for research. These processes impact the economics of the forest industry, the export and import of wood resources and a wide range of products, employment, a range of environmental issues, etc. Timber turnover requires proper control and attention from government agencies. Objectives: to analyze the methods of timber turnover control in Russia since 1990 to the present; to assess the most important trends and identify those that will become key in soon. Methods: expert surveys; analysis of legal documents and scientific literature, practices of the country’s government agencies and enterprises; comparative and retrospective analysis. Results: key approaches and features of the implementation of state policy and management in the field of wood control were identified. The specifics of timber turnover from 1990 to the present were analyzed. A timber turnover control model that meets current requirements for the near future was proposed. Conclusions: the analysis of timber turnover control methods in Russia from 1990 to 2024 highlights the importance of sustainable forest management methods in ensuring the conservation of this vital natural resource. The further development of the forestry industry and timber turnover relates to sustainable and responsible business activity.
