Convergence of students’ personal traits and the rating estimation of knowledge in teachers’ training universities

Organizational changes in educational control of students’ progress are caused by the formation of a common European space of higher education, which led to the comparison and, finally, to the harmonization of national educational systems of higher education. Basic tools that have emerged in the national universities due to the implementation of the ideas of the Bologna Declaration, are the European Credit Transfer System and the score-rating system. In the course of the research dealing with the assumed relationship between training of students majoring in teaching and their personal traits, it was found that the convergence of personal traits and rating of students, who are high in the rating, is determined by the developed motive of prestige, high level of willpower, ability to predict adequately an outcome; students having an average rating - a high motivation of avoiding failure and focusing on activities; students with poor rating -a high initiative and low evaluation of the complexity of educational tasks. Furthermore, according to the data obtained during the testing with application of the methodology “The level of self-organization of students’ learning activities”, a modern student does not employ the skills of self-control in the educational process, and relies entirely on credits of the score-rating system, which, undoubtedly, is a negative trend. The authors conclude that to date, the rating system covering monitoring and evaluation of knowledge in the teachers’ training universities supports the systematic, the most motivated work of both students and lecturers, but requires rejection of the rigid algorithmization and formalization. It should become more flexible and take into account professional and personal values of students.
