The article analyses new monographs by modern Russian historian Aleksey V. Lubkov. The analysis is done in the context of the key trends of the development of Russian historiography concerning Russian Revolution of 1917 in the period of the 1990s - 2000s. The author demonstrates the main directions of A. Lubkov’s research in the area of the history of cooperation and socio-political movement in Russia in the late 19th - early 20th centuries. The article presents a broad review of the historian’s works on the development and political activity of Russian cooperation, its tendency to occupy the leading positions in a number of sectors of Russia’s economy, and to influence the government, which was the case in 1917. In relation with the changes taking place in Russian historiography in the 1990s - 2000s special attention is paid to the way A. Lubkov treats liberal ideology and his contribution to the analysis of Russian liberalism. The historian investigated the specific featured of socio-political activity of littleknown Russian liberals, such as Dmitriy I. Shahovskoy, and their involvement in the events of the Great Russian revolution and Civil War. Another direction of A. Lubkov’s research is the transformation of liberal ideas under the influence of a sharpening political crisis in Russia in the late 19th century. Mikhail N. Katkov, a celebrated publicist and writer, is a vivid example, for that matter. This ideologist was able to depart from the extremes in the liberal political programmes and justify the feasibility and efficiency of reforms to be carried by the government itself with the support of the greater part of the population.
