This article presents the results of a non-clinical study of the effects of acetylcysteine on the biochemical parameters characterizing the antioxidant status and functional activity of hepatocytes in rats after acute ethanol intoxication. Acetylcysteine prevented the induction of oxidative stress. The increase in plasma transaminase activity and in the content of triglycerides in liver homogenates (as assessed 24 hours after alcohol intoxication) were also prevented. The results allow to consider that acetylcysteine is a promising agent, which could be used to correct the ethanol hangover.
