Domestic cat and domestic dog as human companions

The study analyzed sex, age and breed structure of companion animals (domestic dogs and cats) in Omsk Region. The purpose of the study was to determine the structure of companion animals in Omsk Region, to identify the gender and age structure of respondents in contact with domestic cats and dogs. Questionnaires were developed and 1425 people were interviewed. Statistical and graphical analysis of the survey results were carried out, the following data were calculated: the average error (Sp) of the relative indicator, the significance levels (P) and the reliability of the difference in sample shares (td). The majority of the respondents lived in rural areas (66.7±1.25 %). It was revealed that 69.8±1.21 % of the families had pets, among them only 51.4±1.58 % of the families had cats, 40.5±1.56 % had cats and dogs together and 8.1±0.86 % had only dogs. More than one companion animal was kept by 36.7±1.28 % of the families, including more than 1 cat 24.5±1.14 % (2-10 cats) and more than 1 dog 14.3±0.93 % (2-4 dogs). The most numerous age group of the respondents was: in the range of 11-50 years old (77.6±1.1 %), most of them were female (61.9±1.54 %). The children under 15 years of age (9.9±0.79 %) were in contact with companion animals. Outbred animals prevailed among companion animals (64.6±2.62 % of cats and 68.7±3.4 % of dogs).
