Bone carvings of Yankovskaya culture (based on materials from the Oherepakha-7 site)

This author presents the results of the complex analysis of bone carving industry items from the fully excavated Cherepakha-7 site of Yankovskaya archeological culture. The article offers a classification of bone items that shows their use in a wide range of economic activities practiced by the population of the settlement such as leather production and tailoring, hunting, fishing and the following processing of food, woodworking and the manufacturing of household items. The technological characteristics of the artifacts prove the use of traditional operations of the ancient bone carving industry on all stages of production -from selection and preparing of raw materials to final decoration. Among them are splitting, drilling, abrasive processing, and so on.
