The carpet art of mountain Jews of the Caucasus

The article deals with one of the most important components of the arts and crafts of Mountain Jews of the Caucasus - the carpet weaving. The products of the arts and crafts gave people the opportunity to express their aesthetic views, spiritual world, ethnic traditions through the shape and decoration. The carpet pictures were borrowed from the world around; a specific meaning was encoded in ornaments. It is concluded that with the advent and development of factory industry, the demand for this kind of crafts products declined, and the secret of ornament composition was lost.
