Introduction: acquaintance with the historical aspects of foreign criminology allows us to take a different look at the development trends of this science of the anti-criminal cycle in the context of comparative law, since only through the connection of the present and the past it seems possible to most objectively learn certain patterns of a particular phenomenon. Materials and Methods: in the course of the study, the following methods were used, namely: philosophical (dialectical-materialistic); general scientific (analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, abstraction); disciplinary (static); private scientific (dogmatic legal, comparative law). The Results of the Study: made it possible to pay attention to forensic science from a slightly different position, in particular through the prism of foreign approaches in their historical relationship in different periods (the Ancient World, the Middle Ages, Modern Times and Modern Times). Findings and Conclusions: the analysis carried out makes it possible to further use the acquired knowledge in teaching the domestic discipline "Criminalistics", as well as in the course of obtaining deeper scientific research related to the origin, formation and development of forensic science. At the same time, the study is not without practical significance, which lies in the possibility of predicting and establishing certain patterns in the development of specific forensic areas, especially technology and tactics.
