The article examines the main trends in the study of peasant revolutionary movement in Russia on the basis of the research project “People and Power: The History of Russia and Its Falsifcation”. It focuses on the analysis of historians' views on the causes of global malfunction of the government during periods of unrest and revolutions, especially during the Second Russian Smuta of 1917–1921. The author considers some theoretical problems in the study of social crises and peasant rebellion in Russia. It is concluded that the main challenges in applying an interdisciplinary approach to the study of these problems are caused by methodological problems.
