The article considers the significance of using the «SWOT-analysis» method in the criminological study of the drug situation in order to form the most effective strategy of impact on drug trafficking in the region of responsibility of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. The procedure of implementation of the method under consideration through the combination of such elements as the strengths of the law enforcement activities of the competent authorities of the CSTO member states in combating drug trafficking, weaknesses of such activities, opportunities for effective counteraction to drug trafficking, threats of spread and demand for different types of drugs are presented. It is concluded that drug threats are offensive in nature and will not eliminate all the symptoms of the drug situation in the region under consideration. Therefore, the development of a set of protective mechanisms should be primarily aimed at minimizing and possibly neutralizing the causes and conditions that determine or stipulate the production and trafficking of drugs, as well as the related phenomena - crime and drug abuse of the population, rather than their eradication and complete elimination.
