Introduction. Problems of terrorism in the modern world constitute one of the most serious threats to international and national security. The purpose is to analyze the criminological and psychological factors contributing to radicalization and involvement in activities in order to develop effective measures to prevent and tackle terrorism, the specifics of these countries taken into consideration. Materials, Results and Discussion. Data on terrorist activity in Russia and Tajikistan over the last 10 years are used. The criminological-psychological aspects of terrorism are considered, modern trends and the state of this phenomenon are analyzed. The emphasis is made on the study of psychological factors influencing the formation of terrorist beliefs and motives, as well as criminological analysis of terrorist activity. The author examines the reasons why individuals become involved in terrorist organizations, as well as the methods of fighting their radicalization. Conclusions. In recent years, there has been an upward trend in the number of terrorist acts in Russia and Tajikistan; terrorism remains a serious problem for both countries. The psychological aspects of terrorism in these countries have their own peculiarities, and both political and ideological motives in Russia and economic and social factors in Tajikistan should be taken into account in order to effectively combat it. An important area of work is prevention of terrorism, including work with young people, with focus on the socio-economic factors which contribute to the growth of terrorist activity.
