The article deals with topical aspects of assessing the quality of higher education and training. In this context, the essence of the concept of "quality" and modern approaches to its assessment are discussed. A system of criteria for evaluating the quality of training of future engineers is proposed. It is shown that this system allows you to determine not only the level of training of a University graduate, but also the results of students' study of the disciplines provided by educational programs. It is emphasized that specific ideas about the quality of training and its assessment should be and, as a rule, are implicitly an integral part of the academic and organizational culture of each University, as well as a component of the professional self-awareness of each teacher.
