Interatomic bonds relative maximum deformation, corresponding to the inflection potential U(r), were calculated according to Poisson''s ratio of amorphous polymers and glasses. In the first approximation this deformation is the constant for vitreous solids of one structural type. It is realized under the action of thermal pressure at the temperature of the thermal softening point of these materials. It can be used as a criterion of the glass-liquid transition. It can also be estimated as the ratio of the microhardness to elastic modulus.
