The article deals with the problem of overcoming of existing innovation gaps in the national economy that inevitably arise when changing technological structures. The transition to the era of NBIC-technologies actualizes the problem of overcoming the stagnation, in which the system can immerse at the various stages of life cycle, and the search for the “points of development”. The search for the ways to overcome these phenomena is vital due to the fact that in the foreseeable future the economic development of states will be provided with a fundamental role in economic activities of up-to-date technologies: they will cause the increase of gross domestic product in developed countries by 70-85. The study of the development of economic systems and ongoing innovation processes involves the examination of wave-like behavior of these processes and change of performance indicator of its main function through time. There is a sufficient number of research papers in economic science that are devoted to the issues of evolutionary modeling. The study of the processes of “dying” of old systems and the “birth” of new ones, change of their functional properties was carried out by various scholars, however, the issue on when the economic system should abandon the old model of development and move to a new trajectory is still open. The authors explore the reasons of innovation gaps, sources, and appropriate methods to overcome the innovation gaps.
