Cross-cultural influences in the aesthetics of Chinese popular music: from western rhythms to traditional melodies

This article examines some of the processes of influence of Western popular music on Chinese pop music culture. The penetration into China of the main styles of Western pop music (from blues to hip-hop) provoked a wave of imitations and attempts to combine new elements with popular culture. It is concluded that Chinese popular music is a synthesis of national traditions and elements of Western pop music (European and American).
