Iron cycle in small lakes of different types in Samarskaya Luka

Бесплатный доступ

The iron cycle in small lakes of different types of Samarskaya Luka has the following general stages: 1 - entry into water body, 2 - sedimentation into silt, 3 - reduction in silt to ferrous compounds, 4 - diffusion of reduced iron compounds from silt into the water column. Further, in deep-water stratified lakes, reduced iron compounds accumulate in anoxic bottom layers, and in shallow - water lakes, their oxidation at the «water-bottom» boundary. In shallow lakes, there is a faster change of two - and threevalent forms of iron compared to deep-water lakes. The intensity of the iron cycle in water bodies is significantly affected by abiotic factors: shallow water, temperature, and the content of humus substances and carbonates.
