The article is devoted to the comparative analysis of recreation of the historical events of the Crimean War, 1854 in "Sevastopol Stories" by L.Tolstoy and "Master Georgie" by B.Bainbridge. Blaming the forces, unleashing and carrying on armed conflicts, Bainbridge follows Tolstoy and reveals the inner world of man. Fearless exposure of the darker sides of life and consciousness makes it possible to understand the complexity of the real world.Beryl Bainbridge considers human life as a tragedy and farce simultaneously. The main themes: death, often associated with love, the role of chance in life and history, man's helplessness before fatal circumstances - are originally interpreted in the novel.
