The article reveals the main political trends in Norway, Sweden and Finland concerning the Sami people. The key problem in harmonizing the relationship between Nordic welfare state, society and Sami peoples is connected with the basic orientation of the state on individual rights and indigenous people desire to acquire cultural autonomy based on their collective rights.
